About Florida's Charter Schools
Charter schools are public schools of choice. They are very popular—and among the fastest growing school choice options in Florida. Charter schools are largely free to innovate, and often provide more effective programs and choice to diverse groups of students.
Since 1996, the number of charter schools in Florida has grown to over 400 in 2010. Charter school student enrollment has grown well over 175,000 students.

2010-11 Charter School Online Accountability Report
Section 1002.33 (9) (k), Florida Statutes, requires every operating charter school to coordinate with its sponsoring district in submitting an annual accountability report to the Florida Department of Education.
Charter schools that operated during the 2010-2011 academic year must complete the annual accountability report and submit a copy of their Independent Financial Audit Report. Schools that closed during the school year do not have to complete a report.
The deadline for schools to submit the 2010-2011 Charter School Annual Accountability Report online is no later than 11:59 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, November 30, 2011. The deadline for final submission by districts is no later than 11:59 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, January 31, 2012. As required by law, the Department of Education will include in its summary report a notation if a school or District fails to file its report by the established deadline.
